James Dolan Takes 1st Place at North Jersey Forensics Competition
On Wednesday, January 11, 2012, James Dolan, an eighth grader at St. Vincent de Paul School in Stirling, won first place in the North Jersey Forensic League Competition for Declamation. Dolan memorized and presented portions of Elie Weisel’s speech, “The Perils of Indifference.” Five other students from St Vincents also participated: Sylvia Baeyens, Zayna Nassoura, Lorenzo Beer, Joseph Donahue, and Brianna Blishok. Students competed against students from ten local Catholic Schools at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange. The forensics team at St. Vincent de Paul consists of over 30 students who prepare speeches and dramatic readings using elements of clear communication for competitions with students in local grammar schools.
