Forensics Team Has a Fabulous First Year

This year, St. Vincent de Paul School began a Forensics Club for students interested in public speaking.  The Club, moderated by Mrs. Christine Cirrotti and Mrs. Cathleen Diegnan, met after school and during recess.  Students worked hard to memorize and perfect their pieces which were 4 to 7 minutes long. For the competitions, students chose a selection from one of the following categories:  Oral interpretation of literature, Drama, Declamation and Dramatic Pairs.

On Wednesday, February 24th, a team of 7th and 8th grade girls from St. Vincent de Paul School traveled to Mount Saint Mary’s Academy in Watchung, NJ for the annual MSMA Forensic Invitational Competition.  The girls competed with students from other area schools.  7th Graders Alexis Cirrotti and Kayla Epple finished in 2nd place for their Dramatic Pairs piece featuring two students arguing about an ethical situation.

On Monday, May 24th, our team of  6th, 7th and 8th graders attended a Forensics Meet hosted by Union Catholic with more that a dozen area elementary schools participating. The semi-finalists in the Union Catholic competition were: Zayna Nassoura, Sophia Murgolo, Lily Husek and Miranda Fornaro in the categories of Drama and Dramatic Pairs.

Teachers Janet Mangold, Robin Kirkner and Maureen Theoclitus enabled the team to participate in these competitions as they volunteered their time and judged the competitions.
